PRE SEA TRAINING FOR DECK CADETS OF MERCHANT NAVY

  1. Naval Maritime Academy, Mumbai conducts Pre-Sea Training for Merchant Navy Deck Cadets on board IMS Vikrant. This is the only pre-sea training in India being conducted on a ship.
  2. The training for 4th  batch commences on 01 Aug 09. Training schedule for the 4th batch is  as follows:-
    • Twelve months (two semesters) Pre Sea Training on board IMS Vikrant
    • Eighteen months (three semesters) Structured Shipboard Training (SSBT) on Merchant Ships
    • Four months Second Mate Competency course at DG Shipping approved training institute leading to BSc Nautical science from IMU and Certificate of Competence as second mate Foreign Going from DG Shipping
  3. All candidates are sponsored by reputed Shipping companies. On successful completion of Pre Sea Training, Cadets will continue SSBT on ships of TORM
  4. Eligibility Conditions

(a)                10+2 with 60% in PCM aggregate. Not born earlier than 02 Aug 89.

Or,

50% marks in final year BSc with Physics in any of the years of BSc. Not born earlier than 02 Aug 87.

Or,

50% marks in final year of BE or BTech degree. Not born earlier than 02 Aug 85.

And,

50% marks in English either in 10th or 12th or at graduation level

(b)       Physical and medical fitness as per DG shipping standards for sea service

(c)       Minimum eye sight 6/6 with normal colour & night vision.

5.      Selection Procedure

(a) Eligible candidates to send resume to TORM by email hr.india@torm.com with a copy to cadet@namacindia.com . Short listed applicants required to appear for tests and interviews conducted by TORM at Mumbai.

(b) All eligible candidates including those selected by TORM/other shipping companies are also required to appear and pass in IMU Entrance examination as per schedule given below. Prospectus / application form can be downloaded from IMU website www.nipm.tn.nic.in

(i) Prospectus will be available at IMU from 15 April 2009/ can be downloaded from IMU website

 

            (ii)        Last Date of submission of Applications : 29 May 2009

(iii)       Entrance Test will be held on 14 June 2009 (Sunday) 10.00 am – 1.00 pm

(c)  50% of seats are reserved for children of naval serving & retired personnel & serving coast guard personnel. Photocopy of filled IMU application to reach Director, Naval Maritime Academy, RC Church, Colaba, Mumbai – 400 005, by 30 May 09.

(d)  Total fees for 05 semesters will be Rs. 3,00,000/- (rupees three lacs only) inclusive of boarding, lodging, uniforms, text books, training programme and examination fees.
