PRE SEA TRAINING FOR OFFICER DECK CADETS OF MERCHANT NAVY
  1. Naval Maritime Academy, Mumbai is conducting Pre-Sea Training for Merchant Navy Deck Officer Cadets on board IMS Vikrant, 3rd batch commencing 01 Aug 08. This is the only pre-sea training in India being conducted on a ship. Training schedule as follows:

    • Twelve months (two semesters) Pre Sea Training on board IMS Vikrant
    • Eighteen months (three semesters) Structured Shipboard Training (SSBT) on Merchant Ships
    • Four months Second Mate Competency course at DG Shipping approved training institute leading to BSc Nautical science from IGNOU and Certificate of Competence as second mate Foreign Going from DG Shipping


  2. All candidates are selected by TORM a Danish Shipping company. On successful completion of Pre Sea Training, Cadets will continue SSBT on ships of TORM


  3. Eligibility Conditions

    • 10+2 with 60% in PCM aggregate. Not born earlier than 02 Aug 88.

      Or,

      50% marks in final year BSc with physics in any of the years of BSc. Not born earlier than 02 Aug 86.

      Or,

    • 50% marks in final year of BE or BTech degree. Not born earlier than 02 Aug 84.


      • And,

      50% marks in english either in 10th or 12th or at graduation level

    • Physical and medical fitness as per dg shipping standards for sea service

    • Minimum eye sight 6/6 with normal colour & night vision.

    5. (a) Eligible candidates to send resume to TORM by email hr.india@torm.com with a copy to cadet@namacindia.com short listed applicants required to appear for tests and interviews conducted by torm commencing 18 may 08 at Mumbai.

    (b) All eligible candidates including those selected by TORM are also required to appear and pass in IGNOU common entrance examination (OPENNET) for BSc Nautical Science scheduled 15 Jun 08. Prospectus / application form can be downloaded from IGNOU website www.ignou.ac.in

  5. 50% of seats reserved for children of naval serving & retired personnel & serving coast guard personnel. Photocopy of filled IGNOU application to reach Director, Naval Maritime Academy,RC Church, Colaba, Mumbai – 400 005, by 08 May 08.

  6. Total fees for 05 semesters will be Rs. 3,00,000/- (rupees three lacs only) inclusive of boarding, lodging, uniforms, text books, training programme and examination fees.

  8. The Advertisement has been released by IGNOU for B.Sc. (Nautical Science) programme of IGNOU-DGS on Saturday (26th April 08) in Hindu (all edition), Amar Ujala (All editions), Statesman (All editions) . The advt. is also to appear in Hindustan Times-HT Horizon (all editions) on 30th April, Education times of TOI (all editions) on 5th May 08, and Employment News (Hindi/english/Urdu) on 10th May 08. Subsequent to the release of advt., IGNOU had their interactions with prospective candidates on 27th April 08 from 12-13:45 hrs. As already informed, one more Live session on Gyan Darshan-2 TV channel of IGNOU will be held on 12th May 08(Monday) from 12-13:45. Besides the prospective candidates, all the Training Institutes and employing shipping companies can participate in the session to seek clarifications, if any.
